Easily riding along a natural bench trail, crossing the occasional stream you can wind your way out of another hollow, the steep climb to get here is nearly forgotten, nearly. Pedaling past unique rock outcroppings and ancient trees you get the feeling that your glad you brought your bike on this trip to the Ozarks of Arkansas.
Why ride Arkansas? Because it’s the place that everyone else is riding and not telling you about. It’s a place Northern colleges send their cycling teams to train because the roads and weather are perfect in the late winter and early spring. It’s a place where in the dead of winter when many mountain bikers stare longingly at their bikes hanging in the garage, Arkansans are riding sweet ridge-lines with unlimited views, no studded tires, no heavy coats, no worries.

AUSTRALIAN sports fans are well aware of the young Donald Bradman's exploits with a cricket stump and a golf ball, but a new local history book has shed light on the early sporting adventures of tennis legend Margaret Court in Albury. June Shanahan — Margaret's older sister, a former ABC local radio producer and history buff — has published a book Ancestors of a Wimbledon Champion detailing her sibling's deft use of a fence paling that the family used as a cricket bat in backyard matches. That's the future Grand Slam winner in our photo wicketkeeping for her sister, moving June to say it must have been one of the rare times she and her two brothers were able to prise the bat away from Margaret.
