Pssst…. Mona's Rave of "Through the Silent Caldera"

Sometimes you just want to Pssst your raves!

Karen Fleming remembers how after she had first wrote her first book she would read it over and over again making sure every word was spelled correctly and there were no grammatical errors. She reflects how she read the book over a hundred times or more between editing and reclaiming her book from Publish America. This book was the beginning of her life's work that she just refused to give up on it. She retells how she was spellbound that she had written poetry she was actually proud of and had no doubt it was publishable.

Karen’s good friend Mona recently had left her an absolutely wonderful review that she wasn't expecting.

“Karen, your gift as a poet takes to the sky as an angel. Your brilliance shines from every line of this book. Like all those fleeting moments of our lives - beautiful, joyful, and those filled with sorrow. You capture them all and bring the magic to life in an incomparably creative way. Through the Silent Caldera truly is a masterpiece - but more than anything else, it is the very essence of life. We love you!" Mona

There are days when I have received such beautifully written comments that … it reaffirms my belief that all the exhausting and grueling hours I spent perfecting this book was well worth my efforts.

Pssst…. Unpubublished Writers There's Hope

Jeannie Moon writes about herself that "writing is a natural extension of who I am and I use all my experiences and my love of sports for inspiration. I find characters in schools, hospitals, shops, construction sites, courtrooms, patrol cars, farms, and libraries; some come to life on imaginary playing fields and in ice rinks. Eventually, everything ties together. Everything becomes about people taking a risk to be happy.  In the end, my books are about finding that special place to call home, finding comfort, and from those things, finding love. I truly believe that’s all most of us want."

But only now has she written a "Pssst Post". Otherwise we'd not have found her.

temp-wife

And what's her Pssst? Its that she's going to be a published author. What’s strange is that nothing went the way it was supposed to.  Apparently she's written several books, but goes it alone without a book deal. What went different this time is that the one that landed her fame and fortune with a three book deal with Penguin’s digital-first line, Intermix, is that the book hadn't been written. Not a single word.

She sold on proposal. And so this great news has an underlining story for all those unpublished writers out there…

Pssst…. Romance Novels: A Gal's Segue to Badassery

Gwen's at it again and in the midst of reading NY Times Bestseller, Eloisa James' The Duke Is Mine.

"I intend to feel fully badass about this decision, as back in the 18th and 19th century these books were frowned upon because the upper class didn't want working people, LIKE ME, to read them and become sassy."

Pssst…. Womyn Writers

When she was little, kids called her Trail Mix. Her full name is Gwenola. Hence, Granola. Thus, Trail Mix. Thereby, she writes to ease the pain.

"My first question when a friend recommends a book to me is, "Is there romance?"

In this blog entry Gwenola writes about two of three books written by women and told from a female perspective on her reading list. I can only hope she'll complete the entry with her last perspective …

She leaves us with words she heard in a dream: "Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies." As she puts it "Just kidding. That was Aristotle."

Pssst…. In Praise of the Golden Mean

Kate-barssm
To say that Kate Buckley is an accomplished writer does her injustice. To say that Kate Buckley is an accomplished artist does her injustice. To say that a PssstPost found her is spot on!

So in a moment of relationship evolution, Kate writes a self-effacing blog entry that describes not only her history of "attracting either stolidly stoic men or fawning sycophants", but also how she's not going to put up with men with these traits. But that's not the real find…

The real find is Kate. An inspired writer, artist, poet who is so very accomplished, I'm embarrassed to tell you what I've done in my life. What have you done?

First read her required suitor traits rant and then visit her fab site. Parents be proud!

Pssst…. Wake Up and Write

img_2363
This anonymous writer is an early childhood teacher in a school district in northwest Washington state. He/she chose the name One Sunflower for their blog because “I love the image of standing tall with a bright sunny face, ready to shower seeds on fertile ground.  That is the work I hope I am doing.  I started blogging because I was feeling squelched in my efforts to grow as a professional.  I had no idea this outlet would provide such a rich place for me to explore and grow, learn from others and share my learning.”

This Pssst Post reflects the writers need for sun and spring… in pictures. The reason I’ve posted this is obvious, it’s a “Pssst” site. The beauty of this find is not the picture post cards but how a Pssst has found a very intriguing writer. Take a few moments out of your day and enjoy.

Pssst.... Got any hot books?

new+books
PublishProfits.com Brings you the latest news and info on the publishing industry, new books, authors, and more… This blog entry speaks to what and how book publishers "have adopted a new tactic: scouting for literary talent. Scouts go to the United States and Europe and use their connections to be the first to discover which books are being written, which are about to be published, when, and by whom. The scouts then relay this information to the publishing houses with which they work, and the publishing houses use this information to obtain the translating rights to the next best-seller."

This looks to be a great perspective on what bool publishers and writters alike have to expect in the competitive world of book publishing.

Pssst.... Tell the Turtle Soon

thumbnail.aspx
Jan Miesse is at it again with a great narrative that illustrates the power of taking risks, or maybe not knowing that we can't...

"Deep within a forest a little turtle began to climb a tree. After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground. After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground.

The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts. Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.

“Dear,” she chirped, “I think it’s time to tell him he’s adopted.”

Pssst.... Who Gave You Permission to Whine?

Jan Miesse writes today al about whining.

"The T-shirt says, … And Your Whiny, Crybaby Opinion Would Be? … I have to laugh at that question. I’ve never asked it and really don’t want to know.

I’m sure I have whined. I am not proud of it. I can’t remember when I would have done such a thing – but I’m sure I have, at some point, probably, maybe! Whining is definitely something to decide NOT to remember.

Ok. Whine in your room with the door shut but please not to friends and family. Also included in the no-whine zone are service workers, attendants, servers, doormen, taxi-drivers, teachers and neighbors. Maybe now and then to your health care professional, but only if it’s genuine."

Pssst.... Wanna read some Smut? Pete Thinks You Do

9781250003164

One of England’s finest and most loved writers explores the uncomfortable and tragicomic gap between people’s public appearance and their private desires in two tender and surprising stories.

Pete says "Smut by Alan Bennett, consists of two novellas.  And while not nearly as lustful as the title suggests, both stories are humorous, intriguing, and highly entertaining. In the first story, the person one would expect least likely to engage in voyeurism (the prim widow Mrs. Donaldson) suddenly can't get enough when the opportunity presents itself. In the second, Graham, the perfect banker son, is perhaps not all that he seems. Yes, his fingernails are exceptionally clean, but what does that prove exactly? Read this funny little book and you'll find out all his secrets -- and more!"

Pssst... "When I've kicked the bucket" list.

Pasted Graphic 1
Swerving away from the fashion of using a blog as a publishing platform for  unfinished, seminal works of literature, Claire read some books, wrote some reviews, stared off into the distance for a few months, returned to reality, took up an imaginary career as a stalker in an epistolary novel, got a bit paranoid, thought about writing a blog entry on paranoia, didn’t know how to do it without sounding paranoid, tried to duck out of such circular thought patterns, ate, slept, took comfort breaks…

Well, she's definitely made the proverbial "Bucket List" here own. Take a ride on Claire's off beat side.

"Anyway, put off as I am by Bucket Lists which focus on life, I am partial to bit of planning when it comes to life after death."
